We dream to have a job that we want to pursue and excel in. We would do everything we could to get this job. But, when we do get this ideal job, there is this feeling that it is not the job for you.
Or maybe, you are in your job for x number of years, you are tired, you are bored and you are not challenged. Maybe you only need to rekindle your love for it instead of searching for another new job.
If this is the case, how can you rekindle your passion for your career? Here are some ways to do it:
Look back when you first signed up for the job
Take a step back and recall what you felt when you signed up for the job.
Take a close look at the job advertisement you applied for. Did you fulfil all the job requirements it asked for? What makes you apply for this job?
What did you feel when you took the job? What was your goal back then and were you able to achieve it? Did you learn and conquer whatever you need to learn?
When you recall something about the job which you like, it gives you a reason to look forward to the next day.
Do some soul-searching and find your passions again
Every person has different passions and you will need to do some soul-searching to identify what your passions are. At every passing birthdays, we matured, achieve new things and collect new experiences, this means our passions may not be the same as they were 1 year ago.
I used to love drawing and designing many years ago but now I channelled that creativity into writing instead.
Sometimes, curiosity can help speed up the process. When you do some soul-searching, look at the things that make you happy. What things gets your attention and keeps you going?
Add your passions to your work
When you find your passions, find ways on how you can add these passions to your work.
For example, if you love to help others, you can lead your company’s charity drive or you can lead the mentoring program. If you love photography, volunteer to be the main photographer at your company’s events.
In other words, challenge yourself to achieve satisfaction within your company even it is outside of your job scope.
Know what are the benefits of your passions
If you are able to apply your passions in work and share it with others, you will be able to stay productive. It will also help you stay happy while working and get you through the day.
Make note of your tasks and focus on the ones you love first and do the ones you do not like to do last, but don’t procrastinate on tasks that you dislike.
Take a break
If your company does allow you to get a sabbatical leave, consider taking a break to regroup your focus and give you time to reflect about your current career.
Whether it is to travel around or to explore new things, this will allow you to rediscover your passions and perhaps, find new passions through new experiences.
Talk to your mentor
Some of us have a mentor while we are at work, guiding us through our corporate life. Speak to them if you feel like you are at a loss with your career. It is possible that they also gone through the same thing and can help you find your passion back.
Having someone who knows your strengths will be able to recommend a better next course of action in your career path. If your mentor is someone in the company, he or she may even keep a lookout for new opportunities that is suitable for you!
Conclusion
When you find yourself losing interest with your current career, don’t immediately jump ship and look for something new. Take some time to find yourself again and rediscover why you love your job when you first got it. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself in the same slump in the new job like right now.

ON ICE HARD ENDGAME
◇ I Have Observed Quite a Lot of Debate Lately on Journey vs Destination EveryOne; it’s Crystal Clear Clarity that Goals, Objectives and Targets provide a Straight, Rigid Road to what may be a Phyrrhic Victory, Perhaps Even Suicide as There May Be a Perception that There’s Nothing Left To Do…on The Other Hand a Patient, Meandering, Winding Road may bring Consistent Satisfaction on an Endless Journey of Financial Ups and Downs; just ask Sir Richard Branson how He is Coping Very Well with Life After ‘Financial Success’…so Be Careful What You Wish For; it’s Crystal Clear Clarity that You Might Just Get It and End Up in a Coffin Sooner Rather Than Later and, Unlike The Pharaohs and Their Ilk, WithOut The Illusion of Your Money and Materialism Being With You in Your AfterLife after (pun intended) Dying Miserable

Incorporating other passions into my work, or into my work-day, is what works for me. Some examples could be how to travel to and from work, what you do along the way, or what you do during your lunch break; maybe “change it up” if you’ve been doing the same routine for a while.

May be you just need a break. A few days or weeks to do nothing. Just relax. Like our Dutchies: Do nothing

Why do we have to give ourselves permission to do what we love? Since most of us have to work, it only makes sense to do a job that we like. I like your examples of ‘ rolling our own’ where we create our own opportunities for including what we love at work.

A very wise question indeed. We often question ourselves whether we are worthy of happiness. And the truth is that we are!
