What’s left behind is disheartening, disbelief and disappointment. I’m talking about the latest Singapore saga that has everyone talking about it. Singapore is a tiny country so any major news will rock our little world.

In the past, I have highlighted a few stories about Singapore especially if it is closely related to work ethics. You might think that it is strange that I don’t really quote news from Malaysia even I’m currently living there.

For one, Malaysia does have a lot to improve but it is not a first world country unlike Singapore who is not only a first world country but also well known for her strict laws that micromanage her citizens’ lives (we really have fines for every bad behaviour – including you can’t be naked in your own home because it causes nuisance for your neighbours).

Okay, this is not the point of this article. This article is actually to highlight a case that sickens me over the holidays that I was waiting for some sort of closure (with bated breath) before I write my thoughts.

Case-in-point: Platinium Dog Club (Note: I did not spell the wrong name.)

Otherwise, this is a quick summary: Platinium Dog Club is an illegal pet boarding business that houses pets in a residential area. These pets belong to owners who was travelling overseas and require the care of their pets while they are gone.

However, per owners started to question the integrity of PDC when their dogs were returned to them in pretty bad conditions like skin problems and fur badly tangled. People started to come forward their own experiences.

The case started to gain attention in social media when one owner said her dog passed away moments after her dog was collected from the boarding house. Soon, it escalated and authorities are called in to investigate.

All 18 dogs and 1 rabbit was taken into custody but one of the dogs was reported missing. For 8 days, the owners together with many members of the public searched multiple areas in Singapore for the dog.

In the end, authorities revealed that the dog was cremated along with other 2 dogs on different days throughout the festive holidays.

What I Hate

As a business owner, you should always have a passion for the business you are running.

Well, one can argue that profit and knowledge are equally important. I don’t deny that however, profit shouldn’t be front and foremost til the point you forgo the basic fundamentals of business which is to serve your customers. In this case, the customers are the pet owners and their dogs.

Pet owners who trusted the boarder to look after their pets when they aren’t able to. Pets who are voiceless animals, their lives and wellbeing under the responsibilities of the boarder.

My Heart Cringed

As a pet owner who travels frequently, I always make sure that whoever take cares of my 3 cats are someone trustworthy. Even then, I still worry about them each day and tries to FaceTime home so I can see my meows.

When I read the news, my heart just stopped.

I couldn’t believe anyone could be so heartless to abuse dogs that are innocent and voiceless. Dogs’ lives are lives too!

More so that those pets are that sent to the boarding house are beloved pets that are well cared and well loved by their owners. If the comments by the public are to be believed, I can’t imagine any pets that are left in a cage, surrounded by its own waste without proper care (or maybe even fed) for days and weeks.

I have never caged my pets in fact, any room in the house is open to my indoor cats to roam freely. I can’t imagine myself being held in a room (claustrophobic) and I won’t do so to any cat or dog.

I’m following this news closely and hoping that authorities will penalise heavily on pet boarding businesses who take advantages of those poor souls. Stay tuned!
