2017 New Year Resolutions

A new year usually means a new list of resolutions. I mentioned it before that I don’t usually make resolutions because I don’t necessarily follow them to a tee. Instead, I love to adapt to changes in my life and each year; I have epic life changing moments that causes me to evaluate my life choices and paths that I take. 2017 is going to be another epic year as I take on a different role that I am used to. Here are a list of my 2017 resolutions and how 2016 helped to lead these resolutions.

Recognise Priorities (Not A Single Unit Anymore)
With my family growing and a new addition in a month’s time, I have to reorganise my priorities again this year. Last year was all about settling in Kuala Lumpur as an expatriate, taking a long break, travelling, exploring new business opportunities and freelancing at the same time. Well, I couldn’t travel much last year as most of my travel plans like scuba diving in the Perhentian Islands, a return trip to Shanghai, my annual trip to Germany, a Taipei getaway and a Tokyo Disneyland escapade were all scrapped due to my increasing clumsiness and a high-risk pregnancy. I did settle in well in Kuala Lumpur and made some new friends! As for taking a long break, it goes with the fatigue and forced bed rest.

So this year, my priorities have naturally switched to attention to my immediate family, conquering the steep learning curve as a first-time parent while I am going to continue to grow MiddleMe and LadyRedot into something bigger and focus on streamlining my freelancing business.

Finding Balance & Letting to Let Go (Transit to SAHM)
For my MiddleMe loyal readers will know (and eagerly anticipating) a new arrival of mini MiddleMe, awesome news! She is here! Weighing at 2.65kg, the Lil Princess decided to grace her presence into our world on 11 January. So pardon me if I tend to her wails before I reply to your comments but I promise I will get back to you soon! 🙂

Last year, I learned that even though I am away from my corporate life, I still couldn’t stop working and networking. Not necessarily a bad thing as I surprised myself time and time again on how sharp my mind and how sensitive my business instincts are even though I step away from it for nearly two years. However, there are still times I woke up panicking in the mornings, thinking I’m late for work or I lost myself in a pile of clients’ work until dinner is burnt. Do you know cats are the best alarms when comes to burnt dinners or they are the most qualified nannies demanding your attention by blocking you from your computer, so you don’t sit hours in one position?

This year, as I make the transition, I will need to gingerly find a comfortable balance between work, home duties and being a mother. Not forgetting to learn to take deep breaths when things get too much, learn to walk away and learn to let go of control. Sitting in front of the computer screen for hours will be a luxury compared to a crying baby every 2 hours (at least for the first year). Most importantly, I need to remind myself to get some “me time”. I am bribing my loved ones to come and babysit while I plan to make up those missed trips in 2016.

Pay It Forward (Achievement as Top Notch Freelancer & success of MiddleMe)
As always, I enjoy teaching and guiding people especially those that are receptive and hungry for success. I derive joy and satisfaction of seeing those that I have advice or mentored move on to bigger, greater improvements in their lives. I’ve done this during my corporate days and old habits die hard; I continue to do so using MiddleMe as a platform as well as during my tenure as a freelancer and business consultant.

Even before the start of this year, I have begun to amass a dedicated and talented team of freelancers who are capable of writing, customer service, telemarketing, social media marketing and data collection. These folks are personally recruited and groomed by me to ensure the same kind of level of commitment, sincerity and working morales as I have and I have introduced long-term clients, lucrative projects and ad-hoc assignments. If you want to know how this arrangement works between us, read more here.

Think of Bigger Impact
You know how much I adore my lovely three meows and how much joy, laughter and happiness they bring to us day after day. They are not pedigree breed, just strays off the streets and animal shelter. Having them means you can always find me at the pet fair, scouting out a bigger discount on their food and litter. In these fairs and exhibitions, I often went broke even before I start buying anything because of those non-profitable organisations booths waylaid me along towards my goal.

One looks at those teary puppy eyes of an abandoned dog or hearing the heartbreaking story of that abused cat is enough for me to empty my wallet on the spot. I am utterly hopeless and so much so my significant other have to drag me away before I pledge his wallet into the donation box as well as adopt another animal.

This year, I will try to incorporate my passion for helping others in their career and to make an impact in a bigger cause. I’m working on something here and let’s see if the project will take off successfully in MiddleMe. I’m counting on your support!

Both me and the lil diva are doing great although I won’t call her an angel.. haha. She has her grandparents wrapped around her little fingers and response to her every whim. That little manipulator.
