What is Stopping You from Reinventing Your Career

When we start our chosen career or take on our first job, the thought of reinventing one’s career will come to mind. It can help you achieve your goals for the future and improve your work life immensely. For some, reinventing their career is easy because they have a clear plan. But, for many, it is hard to get started in this plan because of various factors that stop them from doing it.

So, if you are in this stage, here’s what is possibly stopping you from moving towards reinvention:

Being Self-sufficient

Successful people often attribute their success to their self-sufficiency, as this shows that they can work independently and do not require constant management. However, being self-sufficient has its setbacks, as it could limit their ability to reach out to others and disable collaboration. It can also disable people from getting help from others or accepting it when people notice you need help.

If you are someone who does not like asking for help or accepting it, it is a sign that you will have problems reinventing your career with their help.

Overthinking

If you want to reinvent your career, you must show that you have excellent analytical skills to deal with problems and challenges you may face.

However, people often get stuck in their attempts to reinvent themselves because they believe they will need more time to think of their next course of action before moving to change. You may be overthinking things because you only use logic to think through problems without considering other factors affecting your problem-solving capacity. This prevents you from seeing the value of other factors that can play a role in your reinvention.

Fixation On Only The “Right” Answer

No matter our problem, we are often taught to look for the “right” answer. However, in life, it can be hard to determine what is truly right or wrong, as many factors can determine the outcome of problems or events. Because of this fact, employees or even leaders cannot answer their personal goals if they are asked. If you find it hard to look beyond the correct answer when faced with a choice, it is a sign you will find it hard to experiment for your career.

Procrastination

Procrastination is another factor that can influence your reinvention regardless of your position in the company. As you advance in your career, you will face more responsibilities, preventing you from thinking about your career in the future. Given the demands, you may find reinvention challenging and procrastinate in pushing for it.

Reinventing your career can undoubtedly change how you work and see your career. It is also not an easy feat, given the potential factors that can prevent you from pursuing it. But if you know the factors that can stop you from achieving a career reinvention, you can plan and overcome the challenge it will undoubtedly present.
