Actually, even when we do not examine our hearts (our self), we WILL remain conscious, even in hell, if that is our choice, and it will last forever. Choosing the sharp pains of finding out we need God’s forgiveness is much more preferable, and that too, will last forever. The Good News is no one HAS to choose hell.
“All that are in hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no hell. Those who seek find. To those who knock it is opened.” (C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce)
