Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers,
but to be fearless in facing them.
Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain,
but for the heart to conquer it.
Let me not look for allies in life’s battlefield,
but to my own strength…
I especially like two scenes, one of which most miss:
Bruce is reading prayers and notes one from his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston’ character: something like “Lord, please help Bruce to understand you…”
He was in the middle of the answer to THAT prayer.
The other is when he prays desperately at the end of the movie. Imitating my Lord, he says, “Not my will, but Thine be done!”
Oh, that we would all learn to keep this prayer closer to our lips.
Thank you for sharing!!.. “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t” (Rikki Rodgers)… 🙂
Until we meet again…
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!
(Irish Saying)

Reminds me of what Morgan Freeman (aka God in Bruce Almighty) said about giving people patience, courage and familial closeness!

Ah.. I can only remember the parting of the soup like Moses part the red sea! I’ve got to watch it again.

You’re right Kally. It is the difficulties that make us grow and develop the way we face adversity.

And it is the support we have in friends that made difficulties smaller and easier.
