Absolutely true. Only those things we keep secret have the power to harm us. Whereas acceptance of our flaws and foibles make them harmless as weapons against us. Quite ironic!

I heard a parallel to this idea from Tim Pool. When political opponents threatened to dox him online, he issued his home address. No ammunition for the enemy!
