It’s Christmas Eve…

It’s Christmas Eve and you don’t have the mood to work, neither does your team. However, as much as everybody love to slack off, there are still work to be completed before anyone else is release to celebrate this festive season with their family.

So how can you make this day productive one? And more importantly, not to look like the slave driver that ruin everyone’s Christmas spirits?

Take Time to Bond

This is the perfect time to know one another. Take the time to kick back and sit down with each of your team members with a cuppa.

Get them to open up to you what their vision for their roles in the company and maybe talk about how they want to achieve new goals in the coming new year.

You don’t have to keep it strictly business, you can talk about what motivates them – whether it’s their children or their personal dream to be a manager like you one day. Remember to allocate enough time to cover everyone.

Do a Team Hurdle

Great time to brainstorm some of the best ideas! Everyone is gear up with happiness, it’s a wonderful time to have them input positive ideas for the company. Keep the conversation light-hearted and jovial.

You can even brainstorm fun topics like what to do for the next year team outing or creative ways to sell the next big products for the company.

Share A Story

There are plenty of heartwarming stories on the internet. It is nice to share some of the motivating stories about how this person makes a breakthrough in his career or funny encounters throughout the year that happened to your team members.

Remember to gently guide it along so that it doesn’t blown up to be a gossip session but more of a positive share-your-experiences session.

Little things like this will inspire your team to look forward coming back to work in the new year.

Sharing & Giving

You don’t have to do secret Santa or gift exchange especially if you are aware that not all team members celebrate Christmas or unable to fork out extra money from their pockets.

What you can do is get everyone in a room and share one positive thing they have learned from each other.

Along the lines like “I have learned from John how to organise my desk. He is so neat and it is nice that my desk doesn’t resemble a rubbish dump!”

Be Thankful

It’s the end of the year and I love to use this opportunity to thank whoever work alongside with me in the workplace.

Whether it is getting a Christmas log cake or a box of cupcakes, it is nice to share with your team members. If you know how to bake, it is time to show off those skills!

Gather your team and share those goodies meanwhile do also share what you have learned from each of them throughout the whole year.

Be humble and positive. It is always nice to hear that your boss actually take notice of you and the work you have contributed.

A little cheer during this holiday season is the way to go. You can do so much more to gently push your staff along to a better start of the new year. What other ways can you think of to motivate people around you? Please share with us in the comments below.
