I came across this blog post of one of my many talented followers just recently and I find it very interesting and entertaining to read. Kevin listed out many points that will provoke thoughts after the read. So seriously, do we do as everyone said and embraced ourselves blindly despite our flaws or do we learn to change and improve for the better? The article is food for thought. Let Kevin and I know your thoughts below!
Meanwhile, enjoy reading….
Sometimes YOU are a Jerk and you do need to Change!
Here are two trains of thoughts-
1. People should accept you for WHO you are. You shouldn’t have to “change” for someone. Be Yourself!
Or-
2. You should work to improve yourself! Always be working to become better. Be a better person, smarter, more fit! Get out there and be more social! Seize the day!
Hmm, so we should change ourselves, right? But we shouldn’t change for others?
If I didn’t change, I’d be living at home with my parents and asking what was for dinner tonight. Hey, if that is your life goal (to live at home with your parents….follow those dreams!) but that’s just not for me.
You should also change for people…especially your spouse. If you are a jerk, you need to change that. I do stupid stuff that makes my wife upset all the time. I do smart stuff that makes her upset but it is for the betterment of the family (so I’m not going to change). She has told me what upsets her and I have made the change for the better. I’m not some insensitive dope who doesn’t want to get better.
Remember: “You don’t have to sick to get better!”
Now, there are times when I’m not going to change. Not all of my advice is worthless advice. I’m not going to stop working hard. I’ll continue to a good parent. I don’t give up because life is hard today. Stuff happens; you take a deep breath and move forward. There are days when I feel overwhelmed but I don’t fall apart.
So if you are a pigheaded jerk, you should change. If you yell at the neighborhood kids because they are making “too much noise”, you should change. If you are afraid to travel, you definitely need to change. If you think you are better than everyone else, please, go ahead and change (and stop thinking like that….you are a nobody everyone hates).

There is a lot of truth in this, and the trick to knowing when changing is something that you agree to yourself is embracing your flaws. Being able to look at every aspect of our selves develops our intuition and gives us self mastery and knowledge, from that point on the changes we make are authentic and not codependent. A great article!

I can only offer the following; many people are “jerks” because their own feelings have been hurt and they have no idea how to cope with that but by lashing out at others, and so the cycle continues. I’m no innocent in this regard; but little by little, I try to understand other’s views and feelings; little by little, it makes me feel like a better person.

I’m so glad you identify your own flaws and try bit by bit to improve. Kudos to your effort and your bravery. We need more people like you!!!

Oh, thank you. But you don’t need any more people like me! Too many already!

And trying to understand the other person IS so terribly important… No, of course, it doesn’t mean the “Jerk” should remain so; however, there is simply no doubt that the old adage is often true: Hurt people, hurt people. All in all, though, VERY good and timely article; thank you, Kally, for sharing! 🙂

All my life I’ve been a non-conformist. I am the captain of my own ship and if you don’t like the course that I am steering, find another ship. I will change if I feel that it will better myself or save a relationship within my family.
A lot of this is due to the fact that I was bullied when I was younger and I’m pretty defensive about a lot of things and my persona is really sensitive.
When I get hurt by those people who want to change me, I just become more of a loner. for people who criticise others I always tell them to look in the mirror and evaluate that person first.

So have I. Your words resoundingly similar to mine. But don’t become a loner, there are a lot of us out there who strive to make a difference in life.

My keyboard is my link. If my writing helps anyone then I will keep on going. My personality requires me to make a difference in peoples lives, even if it’s only one or two. If I can accomplish that then I’ll be satisfied.

It’s too easy to leave change to others. I am always happy to tell people when I have been wrong – there is no shame in realising a mistake.

We should change for our own sakes and those of our loved ones.
Of course we must keep doing the things that are worthy of emulation.
Quite an interesting read with balanced views.
