5 Strategies to Manage Freelance Burnout

Contrary to popular belief, freelancers also experience burnout, even when they have greater control over when, where, and how they work. They lose interest in their work, and their stress levels are through the roof even for the simplest tasks. For some freelancers, it is crippling to experience this burnout, and it affects their performance.

But some can manage their freelance burnout and continue to perform perfectly on every freelance task they take on. How are they able to do so? Here are 5 strategies these freelancers may have applied to manage their freelance burnout:

Follow a Set Work Schedule

You can also manage your freelance burnout by following a work schedule without fail. With a set work schedule, you will be able to focus on work better and get enough rest. It also enables freelancers to organise their work better without letting it overlap in their daily lives.

Pick The Jobs You Can Do

As a freelancer, it can be tempting to get all the jobs you think you can do to earn more money, even if it is not your forte. However, it actually limits the time you can spend on these projects and do well in them. Your attention will be divided among these tasks, eventually causing you to stress out more and be discouraged.

With this in mind, it is best to pick jobs within your niche and develop a clear work strategy to get the job done. You should also take the time to determine what matters most to you, so you can identify which jobs match your preferences.

Speak to Someone

Freelancing is a lonely career because you have to do everything yourself. If you are someone who thrives on socialising with others, learning how to do everything yourself can be tough.

If you are having problems or you think you are burnt out from doing everything on your own, don’t be afraid to talk to someone. They may be able to provide you with help or help you vent, which can reduce your stress and the onset of burnout.

Delegate

Freelance burnout also occurs because you are overwhelmed with the work you are doing, as you are doing everything on your own. You can actually delegate some of these tasks without it affecting your career.

If you do plan to delegate, make sure you can pay the extra help and that you build a strong partnership with them. This will ensure you can rely on them in your future projects. You should also make sure that the work they handle isn’t 70% of the work.

Go Outdoors!

Take time to relax and unwind by going outdoors. It doesn’t have to be a special trip to the park or anything like that. Walk around the neighbourhood or inside your house. When you are outside your office, you will notice that you are less stressed than before.

Every person is different when it comes to dealing with burnout, and there is no permanent fix. While that may be the case, finding the right prevention or management strategies that work for you can go a long way in preventing it from getting worse. Use the strategies above to get started, and tweak them according to your circumstances. It may take some trial and error to find your perfect strategy, but once you do, these burnouts will be easy to handle when they happen.
