Since its introduction, LinkedIn has grown from a professional social media site for building networks to an all-in-one professional hub. Job hunters, like freelancers, can now look for clients on the site and build their portfolio and profile at the same time. However, with how big the site is and how complicated certain sections are, how can you do it?
Here’s a short guide on how freelancers can attract their first client on LinkedIn and tailor their efforts effectively:
Optimise Your Profile
Before applying for job openings or reaching out to potential clients, ensure your profile is clear and complete. Use a recent profile photo, craft a headline that clearly states your services, and include detailed work experience, education, and skills to make your profile compelling.
Post Regularly & Consistently
Posting regularly and consistently on LinkedIn is one good way to get potential clients to notice you and consider you for hire. When you talk about posting regularly, you need to gradually build your content on your profile. Start by posting 3 times a week, then slowly make it a daily ritual. Your posts should be well-timed and showcase your skills and knowledge. If someone comments on your posts, respond professionally.
Engage sincerely with posts related to your field; this will make you feel valued and foster genuine connections.
Network
You should also make it a point to network while using the site. You can start by joining groups and engaging with fellow members. You can also use these groups to find job openings or any related announcements. If a potential client reaches out to you via comments or posts, don’t be afraid to reach out to them. You can even send them a personalised connection request so you can stay in touch and show that you are in the same industry.
Be Real
If you want your potential clients to trust you, be honest in your content and communication, which will make you feel authentic and credible.
There are other ways to improve your LinkedIn presence to catch the attention of your first freelancing client on the site. It will also take a little bit of work for your efforts to yield results. But if you can move past the challenge and steadily increase your visibility, you will definitely see results. Your first freelancing client on LinkedIn is out there; all you need to do is let them know you are there.
