Working as a freelancer is not always a guarantee of success. There will be times when the work is consistent, and other times when it only comes in once or twice a week.
Because of this fact, many wish to transform those once-in-a-blue-moon assignments they get into consistent writing work that they can rely on for a stable income. Some can achieve this while others struggle to do so. How did they do it?
Here are several tips you can adapt to transform these one-off assignments into consistent work as a freelancer:

The first step to securing repeat clients is to consistently deliver high-quality work. When clients see that you’ve not only met their requirements but also exceeded their expectations, they’ll be reassured of your capabilities and more likely to trust you with future projects.
Respect your clients’ time and expectations by ensuring your work is always submitted on time and free from errors. Even a minor delay or mistake can impact how your work is perceived, so it’s crucial to review your work carefully before submission.

Even before you start working on the client’s request, take the time to research and identify additional services you can offer this client regularly. For instance, if you’re a writer, you could offer to manage their blog or social media content. If you’re a graphic designer, you could offer to create a consistent visual identity for their brand. Do they need more articles for their website? Do they need graphic designers to help with their content? Or do they need someone to help them collect more resources?
By taking the time to get to know your clients, you can identify how to provide additional services that meet their needs.
Introduce The Idea
Freelance clients often hesitate to hire a single freelancer for multiple tasks because they believe that the freelancer’s bio indicates they specialise in only one type of task. Some may even think that these freelancers are not interested in working with them again.
But, this should not be the mindset you should show to clients, especially if you want to make them regular clients. So, take the time to pitch your services to clients if you believe that you can do regular work for them. One way you can demonstrate your readiness is by expressing how much you enjoyed working on the task and stating that you would like to work with them again.
Follow up
After completing a project, it’s important to follow up with your client to show that you value their feedback and are interested in future collaborations. Regular, considerate follow-ups can make your client feel appreciated and considered, potentially leading to more work in the future.
Building The Right Connections
It is crucial in the freelance world. You can look into connections to help you find clients who are willing to work with you once, then see if they can hire you for more work. You can build connections through social media or by attending meetups with freelancers. These connections can lead to referrals and repeat business, making your freelance career more stable and rewarding.
Transforming one-off freelance assignments into consistent work will not happen instantly. But if you take the time to talk to your client about your proposal and do your best to improve your job, you will be able to give these clients a reason to hire you again for the long term.
