As the new year dawn upon us, we should look back in the past year and congratulate ourselves for accomplishing milestones, big or small or tiny.
Whether you left a comment in MiddleMe or like one of my many posts in 2019, a big thank you for your contribution and continuous support.
Here are my 3 simple resolutions for 2020:
#1 I will spend more time with my family
Juggling with freelancing gigs, MiddleMe and chores do leave me very little time with my little 2 years old toddler and my husband. Last year, I only went back to Singapore less than 5 times to see my parents and sister.
Focusing on homeschooling my child will take a priority as we really enjoy bonding over lessons especially the snuggling during reading time. The older she gets, the more inquisitive she is and the more she wants to learn.
Together, we are also learning a new language, Bahasa Melayu. This, among many things has opened up my eyes and learned so much new stuff. Teaching her is as good as teaching myself too.
I have started to make some adjustments to my schedule and will carry it over to 2020.
#2 I will spend more time on myself
Time is so limited when you have so much to accomplish. But you can’t achieve anything if you push yourself too hard. So in 2020, I’m going to stop touching my Mac and reaching for my iPhone so much and focusing on creating pockets of time for myself. This means grabbing time to nap, to read a book and even to daydream a little.
I will try to be a little more selfish in giving away my precious time and a little more generous in loving myself. I have started to put my daughter in an awesome play school every fridays for 4 hours so I can do the errands that I always wanted to do but couldn’t bring her with me. Like getting a haircut, going for a dental appointment, getting massages and facials.
It is just not fair to have her sit there for hours watching me getting my treatments done and I couldn’t relax completely to immerse the experience. And weekends are precious to us as bonding time as a family unit.
#3 I will focus on my book
I really need to start on my book. Well, I have heeded some very good advice given by you all here. I have drafted an outline, pull and revamp some of my articles here to be featured in the book. But more shall be done in 2020!
As for MiddleMe in 2020, I will continue to write better and widely to support thirsty readers like yourself. I am determine to read more new posts of yours so I can learn and improve myself as well as to know you better. I will spend time to take up new online courses so I can spread the knowledge around.
So what are your resolution in the New Year? Share with me in the comments right below.
Happy New Year 2020.

I’m proud of you for recognizing the need for both me and family time. I hope to get more serious about my writing this year–so far hitting submit on a blog post has satisfied my need for publication and maybe that will always be enough, but I need to push myself a bit further to see if I really want to be a writer or just play on the shore and call it swimming.

With all the pushing, remember to pamper yourself. Big hugs to you and I believe that you will accomplish what you set out to do. No rush, just enjoy the journey and success will come sooner than later.

They seem realistic and achievable, Kally. Less time with the phone, etc is a good way to free up time. Wishing you good health and happiness, and time to play with your little girl. You won’t get those hours back! 🙂 🙂 Me? Daily efforts at Portuguese and being kind.

Hi, Kally. I really like the thoughts you have expressed in this post. Simple. And I like how you want to give yourself more time …. that is so important for as women we tend to spread ourselves too thin a lot, doing for others. Cherish each day you have. Love those who have your heart and soul within their hands.
I don’t make resolutions. I just keep on the journey my feet have set upon, with integrity and honesty to achieve those things I wish to achieve. I do tend to go inward this time of year, thinking upon what occurred the past year and what I would like to do in this coming year. But I don’t put any expectations on myself. When I get a good night’s sleep, I consider that to be a high achievement, just to give you an example. I have found when I set goals for myself and struggle to keep them, the stress I have put on me is terrible. I am thankful for the little things and when the big things do happen, you can hear me shout for joy!
May you experience Miracles both big and small in your every wonderful days. Make sure you pamper you at times …. and good luck with your book. Do what you can. The rest will take care of itself in due time. (smile)

Thank you so much for your wishes. I do agree that women do spread ourselves too thin. Sometimes we are on the verge of falling ill and yet we still push ourselves on.

To be kinder and have more compassion for everyone I meet. To remember that there is a back story that I can’t know,. Life is complex and every single person is operating from a singular perspective.
And, finish editing and moving on to publishing the next book.
Thanks you for all the work you do.

Thank you for sharing your resolutions with us, Bryan! I do agree with you especially on the point that life is complex and we shouldn’t judge others unless we want to be judged. Have an awesome weekend.

Hurrah for your resolution to spend more time with family. It’s a cliche and it’s true — your child will grow up faster than you think! So we need to put down our magical (and addictive) phones and shut off our amazing (and addictive) computers and just BE with our children as much as possible. Snuggling while reading together sounds ideal!!! Deep breath in. Deep breath out. I look forward to reading more blog posts in 2020.
