Best Careers Worth Going Back to School For at 40

Time flies and I am turning 40 this year (shocking, I know!) so this topic is very close to my heart! It is never easy to make the decision to switch careers, especially if you are 40 years old or older.

You may also think there’s not a lot of careers available for your age group and the cost of going back to school is too high. There’s also no guarantee that taking the time to study for a new degree will pay off for your career once you finish it.

Fortunately, there are careers that are worth the mid-career shift no matter what reasons you may have for doing such a move.

To give you some ideas about what careers you can check out even if you are 40 years old and up, here are some of my career suggestions:

Registered Nurse

Nurses often have a high and stable salary that can reach up to USD$70,000 per year. When you take this career, you will need to learn more about healthcare and how you can support all sorts of patients in hospitals to home care.

Interested people who wish to switch to this career will only take 2 to 4 years to complete their studies for this field.

Physical Therapists

If you want to help people regain their physical movement after becoming injured or recovering from surgery, becoming a physical therapist is great.

They can earn up to USD$86,850 per year and will take around 7 years to finish their degree.

Web Developer

With the popularity of websites, a web developer is a lucrative career to be in. They are the ones who do websites and can work as a freelancer or with a marketing agency. Web developers are also capable of doing coding and web design, allowing them to handle every aspect of website development.

It can take up to 2 to 4 years to complete web developing courses. But, there are web developers who learned everything they need to know by themselves.

Doing this same method can help you save time and money, especially if you are still maintaining your current job.

SEO Specialist

Aside from web developers, SEO specialists are a popular career because they ensure websites high traffic and get people to engage with the available content.

They are also the ones who check if a brand’s marketing strategy works and ensure the website is always up-to-date. Studying to become an SEO specialist can take up to 4 years and will require people to stay up-to-date with digital marketing changes.

Pl identify your little one’s indoor passion like coloring, kid’s books, cartoons on mobile, kids programme on tv/mobile,etc etc and keep her engaged. You should also have one-to-one discussion with her and tell her about this Corona virus and why you all are not going outside home.Today’s kids are very intelligent and smart. She will surely understand your views and therefore not force you to go out.
As for as u are concerned,Sleep as much as possible bcz it boosts your immune system wch helps to your fight against Corona.Listen to music, see Tv,read books, dance with your husband and daughter.do household work.
Thus you can resist your crave to go out.

Cheers to u all, Laugh and enjoy at this critical time.

She absolutely hate coloring. Haha! She doesn’t have patience to paint or color. But we’ve been doing a lot of reading and dancing. I am homeschooling her anyways so I have plenty to keep her occupied. She is learning 4 languages plus math plus science plus general knowledge.

Yes, she knows about Coronavirus and we have been talking about it in childlike terms. She understand people can get sick, why she needs to wear a mask and always wash hands.

  6. Glad to see Registered Nurse made the list. There’s also Mental Health Nursing – which, for me was the best job ever! I only returned to study at the age of 36! and if I can do it, anyone can.

After this virus, I’m sure there will be a leap in applications for nursing – yay !

  7. Great selections, Kally. Gave me lots to think about, particularly as I myself passed the big 4-0, well, not-forever ago.

There are things I intend to improve about my current job, in common with just about everyone out there. Yet still, I’m fortunate enough not to need a career change at present, let alone to provide, as your previous post asked, reasons for my resignation.

Still, you gave us lots to think about, valuable information to have on hand “just in case.”

Thank you so much for your comment. I’m someone who won’t stick to the same career for the rest of my life so I’ll be looking at changing and challenging myself in different areas and industries. I’m easily bored and constantly need to feel the adrenaline rush of conquering a challenge. 😂

I would never guess you were turning 40 Kally. I am retiring from my third career and thinking about my next. I’m 65 and want to work part time serving in the health industry, not to make money, but to still be useful and serving a noble cause. Nothing is more frightening to the elderly than being dependent and useless or to be sidelined because no one respects the wisdom of age and life experience. Being active and engaged as long as possible helps one maintain balance and relevance.
