I felt a kinship when I first came across CJ Porter’s blog. Maybe it is that he is a parent like me or maybe he is an excellent writer or maybe both. I love his articles and how inspiring it is to read them. Today, I have picked out one of his many posts to share with you and hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!

When you start blogging and want to improve your craft it can be difficult to find the best sources of information. I’ve written before about the dark side of blogging, how there are people taking advantage of new bloggers, and provided some great free resources you can use to save you some time and money. Here’s some more. 

This time we’re going to look at the great podcasts there are out there.

Why Podcasts And What’s So Great About Them?

If you’ve read any of my other posts you’ll have noticed that I tend to talk about Audible quite often. The reason being that listening to personal development audiobooks has helped me to turn my life around. The accessibility they provide means that you can immerse yourself in whatever information you require at any time. As a busy, working, single dad, the fact that I can keep learning as I do the daily housework, the cleaning, the laundry, the washing up, or even on the drive to work or chilling with a tea, has been nothing but positive and helpful.

As blogging is another one of my passions it made sense to start listening to blogging audiobooks as well. Here’s the thing, I’m not going to recommend any of them. I’ve paid for, and listened to, 8 of them. I’ll never buy another one ever again. And the reason why? Podcasts.

Not only are podcasts free but the information they have provided has been so much more helpful and beneficial. Because the world of blogging is so fluid and dynamic the books you might read, or listen to, quickly become outdated. Podcasts, on the other hand, are always fresh. The information and advice they provide is current and up to date

With that in mind here are the 7 best blogging podcasts I’ve found. Some that I listen to, and some that I have seen being recommended very often in the various blogging groups and communities in which I am a member. 

Top 7 Blogging Related Podcasts

The Blogging Millionaire by Brandon Gaille. This is one of the first blogging podcasts I ever listened to and still do. His blog went from 0 to 1 million monthly visitors in just under 18 months and he likes to help aspiring bloggers reach the same dizzying heights. 

There’s no filler in his podcast episodes which are usually around 10 minutes long and full of straight, to the point, actionable advice. As a side note, his own personal story of overcoming hardship is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. 

Blogging Your Passion by Jonathan Milligan. Milligan’s passion is ‘helping bloggers become better bloggers’. While I’m not a religious sort, the fact that his purpose ‘is to use my creativity and coaching to support and inspire others to reach their full potential for the glory of God’ really appeals to me.

Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn. This podcast teaches you ‘proven strategies for running an online business and optimising it for passive income’. What I like about Flynn is that he is aware of all the suspect advice there is out there, about internet marketing and starting an online business, and is therefore keen to provide ethical advice that has been properly tested.

Problogger by Darren Rowse. Rowse calls his podcast ‘a practical podcast… to help you build a better blog’. As he says, his podcast ‘is all about inspiring, teaching and supporting bloggers from around the world to create blogs that not only serve their readers and make the world a better place – but which build income streams for the bloggers behind them’.

The Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher. In this Wisconsin woman’s own words her podcast is a ‘live-workshop style business podcast that is helping thousands redefine success and chase bolder dreams’. She has some great guests and provides some great advice.

Do You Even Blog by Pete McPherson. This is another one of the podcasts that I listen to regularly and has episodes ranging from 10 minutes to an hour. It contains, as well as actionable advice, some great interviews with the world’s best bloggers, entrepreneurs, and online business experts. In McPherson’s own words DYEB ‘exists solely to help other people start and grow blogs’ and to ‘help you produce better content that changes people and brings in blog revenues’.

Food Blogger Pro – Bjork Ostrom. Ok, I’ve haven’t got around to listening to this podcast yet. The reason why it is still on my list is that I have seen it being recommended so many times that it must be doing something right. The general consensus is that even if your niche isn’t food you will still learn a lot about blogging in general. 

Listening To Your Podcasts

While I have provided links to the podcasts above you might find it helpful to download Stitcher App (Android) or Podcasts App (iOS) if you want to listen to them whilst on the go. Frankly, that’s the only time I listen to anything and I would be lost without Stitcher.
