Ditch The 9 To 5 For One Of These Flexible Full-Time Jobs

These days, most standard office jobs are from nine to five every weekday. There isn’t anything particularly wrong with these working hours – after all, the majority of people who work them are happy with them. However, they may not fit in with some people’s lifestyle. For instance, couples who both work from nine to five and have a newborn baby might find these strict work hours make it difficult to find childcare.

Unfortunately, the solution isn’t to simply give up the job. Otherwise, you’ll be losing a considerable sum of money each month! So, what exactly is the answer? Well, rather than sticking to your usual nine to five and suffering these dull work hours, you could start a job hunt for a full-time job that offers flexible hours. This isn’t something that sounds too good to be true – these types of jobs do really exist! You just need to know what to look for. To help you out, here is my pick of the best full-time jobs with flexible hours.

Waiting Staff

Generally speaking, waiting and serving staff aren’t believed to have that good a pay package. But that is probably because the waiters and waitresses we see more often than not in local restaurants are young college students who just want some pocket money. This isn’t the best paid type of waiting job. However, if you sign up with an agency which sources staff to wait on at large events, such as conferences, weddings and charity events, the pay package increases considerably. Once you have enough experience behind you and have developed a good sense of professionalism, you could potentially earn a few hundred pounds for a few nights’ work. It may take you a while to work up to this level, but putting in all the effort is very much worth it.

Social Care

Social care is a great profession that gives you the chance to work with people and give something back to the community. More often than not, you will be working with the elderly and helping them do day to day tasks in their home. There is also a demand for people to work with patients who have long-term health conditions or are suffering after an accident. You can see the different types of family support worker jobs online. Most social care workers work in shifts, so you should be able to pick the shifts that suit your lifestyle best.

Freelance Writer

One of the best ways you can work whenever you want is to become self-employed or a freelancer. And one freelancing job that gives you a great amount of flexibility is to become a writer. There are numerous ways you can write to earn money. One of the most obvious things to do is to publish a novel. However, this is a lot easier said than done! You will have to work on your novel for a year or two before it is even picked up by a publisher. There is no guarantee that it will be published in the end. Thankfully, there are some easier ways to get paid if you don’t fancy writing an entire book! Ghostwriters are very much in demand these days. This simply requires you to write blog posts for company blogs. The job is called ‘ghostwriter’ because your name isn’t published with the articles. Instead of getting the bylines, you get paid. The best way to test out becoming a writer is to start your own blog. Once you build up your audience, you can start to think about monetizing your blog. There are a number of ways you can go about this, but one of the best is to sell advertising space to local companies.

Hair & Beauty

Have you always thought that you were a bit of a creative type? Love getting ready before a big night out? Then why not think about a career in health and beauty. Once you have had all the necessary training, you will be able to set up your own business as a hairdresser or beauty therapist. There are various night schools and colleges up and down the country where you could study all the courses you need. If you then want to set up your own business, you will need to find clients. The best way to do that would be to print out flyers that detail your services and prices and post them through letter boxes in your local neighbourhood. Setting up Facebook and Twitter profiles for your hair and beauty business is another great way of getting noticed by people in your local area.

Tutor

Have you got a degree? Why not put it to good use and become a tutor. There is always a good demand for tutors to offer one to one lessons and tutorials with children who are working towards their GCSEs and A-Levels. You will be able to tutor the subject that you did at university. As a graduate, you will also be able to work with very young children and help them with basic maths and English as well. It is very easy to set up yourself as a tutor. You just need to market yourself so that lots of families know about the services you offer. One of the best ways you can do this is to ask your local schools if you can send out an advert in their weekly or monthly newsletters. Then you just need to set up a home office where you can tutor all of your tutees. Ideally, you should convert a spare bedroom. If you don’t have a spare room, a quiet corner of your living or dining room should suffice. Be sure to invest in a desk, laptop and all the necessary textbooks for your subjects.

As you can see, there are lots of options if you do want to look for a job that offers a much more flexible work structure. With the majority of these jobs listed above, you will be able to decide exactly when you work.

Flexible working hours is always such a privilege for some jobs but as you pointed out in this post, for certain jobs it is not too to earn this. With a role that is not the standard 9-5 hours, I think there is more of an onus on you to know what you are doing on the job and actually do it well – and you need to know your skill well before an employer can trust you time off when you need it. Best of luck for 2017, Kally 🙂

Thank you so much, Mabel! I hope you have a wonderful celebration into the new year!! Yes, as you pointed out flexible working hours are such a privilege and does not occur in most jobs, although I do hope that one day most companies will opt in to provide that option to people who desire flexible working hours.
