Movies that Motivate My Career

One thing that always never fail to pull me up when I am down and frustrated is when I stumbled upon a movie that inspires me to do more in my work and to bring me back to the same spot where I believe in me, my passion. Today, I like to share those movies with you and hopefully that maybe one or two will inspire you when you have your down days.

Pursue of Happyness

This movie is my favourite career inspirational movie. Will Smith made me cry, gave me hope and had me rooting for him. It is one of the movies that I will make my sales team watch it. The raw emotions are so real and raw, it is motivating right up until the end. If you haven’t watch it, you should. If you are working as a sales person, you should watch it. If you are working in a call centre, definitely watch it.

The Intern

This is a fairly new show. Gear towards the entrepreneurial spirit in me than any other movie has. It is very current and it shows when you are introduced to Anne Hathaway’s open concept spacious office and eccomence business model. I like the way it presents the real struggle between motherhood, family and career. Don’t get me wrong, it is no sappy movie but does boil down to why do we have to choose between both things that we love.

The Internship

Now this is not to be confused with the above movie. This is like a huge advertisement why you need to work in Google. It introduces Google’s mission statement and working culture, sublimely create the ‘wow’ factor as we learned that everything you consume in Google is free or they have a slide in the middle of the hallway or “you’ve got to love this” napping pods. But you got to love that this movie promotes the underdogs and got you rooting for them. It emphasises that it is not all about IQ but EQ as well.

Devil Wears Prada

Another Anne Hathaway’s movie! What’s up with career motivational movies and her? This movie shows her evolution from an innocent fresh graduate to someone who is prodding along until she found who she really is.

Get A Job

This is the movie that sparks off this post. I managed to catch this movie online and it is deciphered the current economy era we are in. The millennials trying to do the right thing by striking a balance between following our generation’s footsteps by having a proper 9 to 5 job while quenching the thirst of individuality and entrepreneurial spirit versus the older generations finding their foothold and acceptance of innovative creative direction that our job market has evolved.

All the movies have one common theme – passion. The main characters had their dreams squashed again and again and yet for the third time, again but like an undying spirit, they kept picking themselves after being knock down for more.

So if you have some time on your hands this weekend, why won’t you pick one of the above movies and watch it? It might provoke inspiration and passion in you again!

Enjoy!

Great list. Allow me to suggest Erin Brockovich which highlights the steadfastness required by whistle blowers.

Reblogged this on ashokbhatia and commented:
Here is a good list of Hollywood movies which concern the area of management.

As to Bollywood, two come to my mind, especially when it comes to Work Life Harmony: ‘Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein’ and ‘Baar Baar Dekho’.

Enjoy these over the next weekend.

        Pleasure is mine!
Having myself posted two blogs on the subject of Management Lessons from Movies, and having delivered quite a few lectures on the same theme, your post adds value to that stream of thought.
