Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.
This is one of my favourite Christmas carols although I was singing this in the tropical sweltering heat of Malaysia!!

Thanks very much, Kally. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year too. I’m going off now to help run an island. My younger son got a video game called Tropico 4 from Santa. It involves him controlling a small Caribbean nation as a benevolent dictator. He wants my insights into how to boss people about.

If you consider less than half an inch of snow, then yes in Shanghai but its full of grey flakes of snow due to pollution. Yucky!

Belated thanks for Christmas wishes!
Some things some consider positives about our winters: downhill skiing, sometimes very fast and sometimes resulting in broken legs and wrenched knees; sledding of various kinds with even worse results than the aforementioned; skating, including ice hockey; ice boating (they move very fast and “turn on a dime”); if very foolish, auto racing on thick ice, risking life and car; ice fishing; getting drunk while freezing in a small cabin while ice fishing; building snow men and snow forts; having snowball fights from snow forts; with really deep snow, building tunnels; and more.
Some things not so positive and never mentioned by local tourist boards and chambers of commerce about our winters: having to wear five to ten pounds of extra clothing, head to foot; having to shovel snow, sometimes heavy with water content and sometimes resulting in cardiac death; skidding out of control in automobile on ice; skidding (slipping) out of control while on foot on ice; shovelling car out of snow when stuck…
It is winter here, drop by any time!
