Cheers To the Passionate

This is an all time favourite video of mine especially when I am feeling disappointed and let down, uninspired, watching this would perk me right up. Yes, I might be misunderstood and labeled sometimes but so are the following passionate people who gave their all to their creations. Today, let me share some of the greatest passionate people in the world and hope that their passion, determination and commitment will rub off you too.

Thank you, Robin Williams for all the laughter and joy you have brought into our homes and our hearts. Even when you are suffering from depression, you did not just quit but you push on to bring the last bit of giggle into us. For that, I thank you.

Thank you, Michael J Fox for giving us superb performance and using your status to create awareness for your illness, Parkinson Disease. I believe a lot of thoughts have gone through your head when you decide to continue doing what you love most – acting and using that fame in exchanging of going to numerous talk shows to educate your fans about the disease. For that, I thank you.

Thank you, Amelia Earhart for standing up for your rights as a woman and showing everyone that pursuing a passion of your own, that you are an extraordinarily pilot, despite obstacles against you is worth it. Your legend lives on. For that, I thank you.

Thank you, Lee Kuan Yew for leading Singapore into a first world country among the third world neighboring countries and believing in your people and we can do so much more if we chose to do so. For your passion in moving forward and onward as a nation, and never bow down even as we criticize some of your policies. For making a safe place to live in and for racial harmony. For that, I thank you.

Thank you, Fandi Ahmad for bringing soccer glory to Singapore at the time when our parents would frown against us wanting to be a professional sportsman. For believing you can do it, for inspiring all the young sports talent, telling them that they can do it too. For that, I thank you.

Thank you, Steve Jobs for the above video and the innovation of technology, for changing the world in your ways and your determination never to bow down to obstacles. For insisting on perfection and your stubbornness that you are always right. For that, I thank you.

I know there are so many so many people out there who deserves my mention and I can’t never include them all in this post. These folks have encountered detractors, worst criticism and have never gave their dreams up, constantly fighting against being a part of a herd, constantly fighting against being a mould of society. You’ll never see them flaunt their wealth or abuse their powers. You’ll never see them escaping and cry whenever they are beaten down by others. They learnt to stand up for themselves, what they believe in, their passion.

So ask yourself today as I always ask myself every morning, have I done justice to my passion, have I take a step closer to my dreams, have I waste a day of idling and moaning? Perhaps we won’t be able to change the world but in little ways, you are already making an impact in your own little world.

To all the weridos, the crazy ones, the round pegs in square holes, thank you for pushing yourself against the crowd and shining in your own right.

If you are curious about the video:
Steve Jobs narrates the first Think different commercial “Here’s to the Crazy Ones”. It never aired. Richard Dreyfuss did the voiceover for the original spot that aired.

Albert Einstein, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, Jr., Richard Branson, John Lennon (with Yoko Ono), Buckminster Fuller, Thomas Edison, Muhammad Ali, Ted Turner, Maria Callas, Mahatma Gandhi, Amelia Earhart, Alfred Hitchcock, Martha Graham, Jim Henson (with Kermit the Frog), Frank Lloyd Wright and Pablo Picasso.

The young girl at the end is Shaan Sahota.

‘ Square pegs in round holes”…this is very much true. It is these people who possess granite will who inspire us in our daily lives.
Take Aung San Suu Kyi, for example, she has been a lone beacon for human rights and social justice for many years and one would think she would have given up but she kept fighting on. Today she is reported to have won in democratic elections in her home country.

    Once again, thanks.

      1. I was blessed to be born poor, I guess it’s no surprise why I stayed that way. Life seems so much easier if you don’t have to worry about finding an investment broker to handle all of your riches. Ha ha
Such a shame that people put all of their value into homes, stuff, and how much wealth they can accumulate. Millions of Americans are living from paycheck to paycheck. There can’t be much peace in that kind of a life. We should feel bad for them but it’s a life that they chose to live. Keeping up with the Joneses seems to be a very high priority.

I have read somewhere that a lot of people in first world countries are heavily in debt, living on credit. Everything is on loan, education, car, even roof on top of our heads.

          1. I cannot imagine anyone choosing to live that way. You become a slave of the lenders, so sad. All the stuff that gets accumulated is never appreciated because it was not earned. We are becoming very, very wasteful.
